Avango Couriers

The Greater Manchester Courier Company

"Start a business", they said...

Okay nobody actually said that, but it was the natural progression. I was tired of working for other people and not seeing any rewards for helping their businesses. So I bought a van, and started a courier business. Not really sure why that was my choice as I was a print and web designer at the time.

Courier Delivery Services

In 2014 I launched Avango Couriers Ltd. I was already a delivery driver and this was to be an upgrade from my self-employed status at that time. I wanted to look more professional and it seemed to me a limited company was the way forward.

Five years later it has so far proven right. The business is still small, but is going through its most profitable period, with a selection of regular customers helping to make strong growth for 2019.

Unfortunately, one thing you have to deal with in business is late paying (or even non-paying) customers.  We had to struggle with one such customer ruining our 2018 but we’re taking the fight to them and will see them in court. (update: We won the court case and have our money!)

A lot of our work also comes through local business customers in Wigan and Greater Manchester, along with partnerships with other couriers. Sub-contracting is a huge part of this industry. We do some work for other transport companies. They do some for us. There is a mutual respect on most parts with each other’s customers.

Where does A-van-go next?

There are lots of new ideas in the works for Avango, and there are also a number of ‘sideline’ businesses that are connected, including our new information site for couriers called Couriers TV.

Avango Couriers 2024 Business Updates

Throughout late 2019 and early 2020 we created a website specifically for Pallet Distribution, but due to some difficulties trying to cover some of the loads, we ended up selling the project to another company.

Come mid-2021 everything was moving along nicely. We had plenty of customers. I’ve made changes to the website to encourage some new customers to try us out for our professional same day delivery services. But in 2022 the focus shifted massively to our Couriers TV project while Avango levelled off a bit.

2023 hit us hard as we tried to adapt to changes in our personal lives, but signs for 2024 are good. With one new vehicle on the horizon, a long-standing customer giving us reason for encouragement – we’re positive things will be back on the up in ’24.

I made a little video

It’s awful, I know. But it was one of my earliest efforts and it did what I needed it to do at the time.
